The six-person Fort Lauderdale jury found that the tobacco giant played a role in the death of a decorated World War II veteran who smoked their cigarettes for more than 50 years. His widow, Blanche, claimed that Reynolds knowingly placed a dangerous and addictive product on the market and took part in a sweeping conspiracy to hide the true dangers of smoking from the public.
Malcom Fox died at the age of 82 from heart and respiratory disease caused by his addiction to nicotine. Fox smoked more than a pack of cigarettes a day for much of his life, an addiction which our firm successfully proved led to the development of the diseases that claimed his life.
Reynolds faces similar allegations from numerous other victims and families throughout Florida who have been harmed by cigarette smoking. This case is one of many Engle progeny cases in Florida, stemming from a 1994 Florida Supreme Court decision requiring tobacco cases to be tried individually.
