Polaris ATVs Recalled for Defective Fueling Systems
The Polaris ATV recall reported by the CPSC began due to a fire hazard inherent in several ATV models. According to reports, an electrostatic discharge outside the fuel tank can ignite the fuel, especially while refueling or if fuel has recently been spilled during refueling. Polaris has stated that the issue can be prevented by installing a new fuel filler neck clamp or fill neck cover, which suggests both parts were originally designed defectively.

Polaris ATVs Recalled for Unsafe Wiring
In a separate recall, Polaris announced that around 80,000 of its ATVs sold in the United States could have unsafe wiring that poses fire hazards and brake failure risks. It is believed that at least five fires have been started due to this defect, which is separate from the fires related to the fueling system defects. No injuries have been reported due to this defect, but significant property damage may have occurred in a few instances.

Polaris Off-Road Vehicles Recalled for Fire Hazards
The CPSC has also issued several additional recalls for Polaris-brand off-road vehicles and other recreational vehicles, all for fire hazards:
- The clutch of the Polaris RZR XP Turbo/Turbo S off-road vehicles can reportedly fracture during use, possibly causing a spark and fire; the same models also reportedly have a fuel tank leak issue that can start a fire.
- The Polaris RZR off-road vehicle can reportedly suffer a sudden alternator failure, which might pose a fire hazard.
- The fuel tank and fuel pump outlet connector of several Polaris off-road vehicles can reportedly leak, potentially catching fire if near a hot surface, spark, or open flame.
- The Polaris MATRYX RMK KHOAS and PRO snowmobiles reportedly have a throttle and brake defect that can cause the rotor area to overheat, possibly burning riders or causing a spontaneous fire.
