Attorneys Scott Schlesinger and Jonathan Gdanski secured $8 million in compensatories and $12 million in punitive damages for the family of Marion Landi, who died of lung cancer in 1999, caused by her addiction to cigarettes. According to court documents, Landi switched to light and low-tar cigarettes because information published by the tobacco industry led her to believe that they were healthier than the cigarettes she had been smoking.
